Congenital heart defects occurs in children 1 in 125 births. It is a silent killer of infants, because many go undiagnosed! Congenital heart defects occurs more frequently than autism, yet is severely underfunded for research and for family help! While there are a few organizations that do try to help, we need more. I have a daughter with HLHS. Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome is the most fatal in congenital heart defects. These infants and children have to undergo a 3 stage open heart series just to reconstruct their heart. Many do not make it. We are lucky, my daughter Abigail, has HLHS and is now 9 yrs old.
